Chameleon3 specialises in the design and project management of museums and exhibitions, particularly in the heritage and culture sector and manages a historic photographic archive of the Middle East.
Projects can include anything from cataloguing a collection of artefacts, specialist content research, graphic design, the design and project management of new museums, temporary exhibitions or the refurbishment of all or part of an existing museum.
We are happy to work on all or part of a project where our elegant design, strong sense of colour and attention to detail can really make a difference.
Chameleon 3 was founded by Joy Ashworth in 2006. Prior to that she spent 20 years with Event Communications where she was a co‑founder. Notable projects she worked on during that time were the Gurkha Museum, the Natural History Museum in Oman, Dubai Museum in Al Fahaidi Fort, St Katherine’s Protectorate Visitor Centre in South Sinai, Egypt, and Chester Beatty in Dublin, named European Museum of the Year in 2002.
Recent projects undertaken include - in Oman, the design and fit out of a private museum, the refurbishment and furnishing of a palace and specialist furnishings and artwork for a large new build villa; the artefact cataloguing, design and project management of Mougins Museum of Classical Art in the South of France – winner of the prestigious international Apollo Award for museum opening of the year 2011 and Trip Advisor’s Travellers’ Choice 2020 award; two new permanent additions to the graphic interpretation at Ickworth House, a National Trust property in Suffolk and the interior fitout and furnishing of a house in Kent.
We compiled and manage Arabian Album, a historically important black and white and colour digital photographic image archive of the Middle East and North Africa from the 1950s to the present day. Countries covered include UAE, Oman, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, Iran, Jerusalem, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Syria, Morocco, Egypt and Zanzibar. A sample of the 20,000 images we hold in the library can be seen at arabianalbum.com
The images were all taken by people who lived or worked in the region over many years. We also design and publish specialist books of historic photographs taken from Arabian Album. If you would like to see more of the collection or have any specific requirements please get in touch with us.
Images of the Emirates, with a foreword by H.H. Sheikh Butti Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum, is the first in a series of books with images from the collection of Cecilia Green. It is a compilation of more than 200 photographs and records her time in Dubai from 1963 to 1971 and the journeys she made around the Emirates (known then as the Trucial States). Excerpts from Cecilia’s letters to her family in Sweden are used as the book’s narrative. With a limited print run, numbered copies of the book are available to buy at a price of GBP£40, plus postage and packaging. Please contact us for further details.
Current commissions, for both private and public clients, include the design of a private museum and gallery in Oman, the research, design and production of a photographic book of memoirs and heritage photograph supply for new museums in Dubai.
